Another month means another Mogg to feature, this time we're continuing with another multi format staple
Mogg of the Month for August 2025 is Legion Loyalist
Printed in Gatecrash in 2013, this goblin can really change the outcome of a game from the moment it is played.
For starters it's a 1 mana 1/1 with haste, which in my opinion meets the basic requirement for a playable goblin, but this goblin does so much more.
"Battalion — Whenever this creature and at least two other creatures attack, creatures you control gain first strike and trample until end of turn and can’t be blocked by creature tokens this turn."
This ability is the difference between having our board state stall out or push through. Giving our goblins first strike helps us apply the pressure on our opponents, no longer trading blockers but actually clearing the path. Trample becomes super relevant if we're swinging with cards like Goblin Piledriver, Muxus or any other high power goblins. Finally "can't be blocked by creature tokens" is a lot stronger than it initially seems. Lots of other decks poop out tokens be it zombies, rats, birds, constructs, soldiers, angels or even in a goblin mirror match. The list goes on and on!
Legion Loyalist has solidified it's spot as a staple in aggressive goblin decks
This card has only ever had two printings. The original in Gatecrash, then a reprint in one of the Guilds of Ravnica Guild Kit precon decks.
Here's what others have said about Legion Loyalist:
"Legion Loyalist can really shine in aggressive decks giving your creatures first strike and trample when you hit Battalion makes it easy to push through damage"
“I like how it changes combat dynamics getting that extra punch and evasion on the attack makes games feel more explosive!”
“Legion Loyalist is basically a tiny hype man for my army shouts ‘FIRST STRIKE!’ like it’s at a sports game, even though it’s only a 1/1.”
Thats all for this time, as always leave a comment if you have any suggestions for a future Mogg of the Month!
